Reinhold Messner has gifted the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley no fewer than two museums. The MMM Corones is situated on the summit of Mt Plan de Corones/Kronplatz; the best way to get there is to take the shuttle to the valley station and then the cable car up to the summit. At the top, you’ll be greeted by Zaha Hadid’s architecture and a view of the Dolomites that leaves many speechless. Ladin culture, via ferrata routes, and cuisine that sparkles with stars: Val Badia/Gadertal packs a lot of character into a single valley. Everything in Pfalzen itself – Kronaction, Bergila, the LandArt trail, and the forest playground – can easily be covered in a single day’s holiday. It’s best to plan your visits to Bruneck and the Lodenwelt separately.
Walk along the LandArt trail in the late afternoon, when the light filters obliquely through the trees. Then the sculptures glow and you have the forest all to yourself. Your Green Lake Hotel Weiher in Pfalzen in the Val Pusteria/Pustertal valley is right at the heart of the action.
