Sun and terroir in bottles

The wine cellar and the bar

When you talk about wine at Green Lake Hotel Weiher, you’re talking about Andreas. He holds the key to a place full of delights. Or, to be more precise, to a cellar where 25,000 bottles are waiting to reveal their flavourful secrets.

He doesn’t like to talk about it, but we’re going to tell you anyway: Andreas is one of the few people in the world to hold a diploma from the Austrian Wine Academy. But for him, the character of the wine in the glass matters far more than his qualification. Together with Hans and Alex, he’ll guide you expertly through a selection of 1,100 wines that have been awarded by Falstaff and Gault-Millau. What they pour for you is a glass of wine and a whole world of stories of indulgence.

Markus recommends:
Riesling Anadûron

“It won’t be rushed. With every glass, it reveals a little more of its soul.” – Markus Peintner

Grown on the rugged granite and slate soils around Naturns, the Anadûron from the Falkenstein Winery possesses a distinct minerality. Orange zest and ripe stone fruit combine with an almost salty freshness. Markus particularly values it as a bold accompaniment to Asian cuisine; on the palate, it creates a dance between acidity and spice.

Andreas recommends:
Composition Reif

“A wine for moments when time is of no consequence. For conversations that go deep.” – Andreas Peintner

The Composition Reif from the Unterganzner Winery is an invitation to pause and reflect. How does it achieve that? With a bouquet of dark berries, subtle spice, and a hint of the forest on the nose. What could be more perfect for an evening at Green Lake Hotel Weiher, with a view of the surrounding woods? On the palate, it reveals a structure that evolves with every sip; a subtle yet powerful character that pairs elegantly with hearty dishes such as lamb and game.

At the bar: Weihers Gin

When the evening light falls on the lake, the best place to meet up is at the 360° panoramic bar
Here, we serve Weihers Gin, amongst other things. It’s a tribute to our home region of Pfalzen,
distilled in collaboration with the St. Urban distillery in Girlan.
Precise, full of character, and with a depth one would expect from a place with such a cellar.
